Poems by Rumi and other Poets
This being human is a guest house
Every morning a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor. Welcome and entertain them all! Even if they're a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture, still, treat each guest honorably. He may be cleaning you out for some new delight. The dark thought, the shame, the malice, meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in. Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from the beyond. ~ Rumi |
~ Rumi |
Why are you so afraid of silence?... Silence is the root of everything. ~ Rumi |
Death has nothing to do with going away. The sun sets - The moon sets - But they are not gone. ~ Rumi |
Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves like locked rooms and like books that are written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will find them gradually, without noticing it, and live along some distant day into the answer.
~ Rainer Maria Rilke - Letters to a Young Poet |
Friendship is always a sweet responsibility, never an opportunity.
~ Gibran
